Back, But For How Long?
9.2.11 - Been awhile. I had high hopes to run frequent updates, line scores, etc., but the crushing disappointment of the Twins losing season dictated otherwise.
Anywhoo,

Nails Up, Bitches
4.7.11 - Game 6. A couple of quick notes here...
Listened to the Twins/Yankees on the radio. Got the New York feed. They made it sound like Swisher's take-out slide on Nishioka was clean, but
breaking someones fibula sounds like anything but clean baseball. Dirty ball, assholes. Yea, I know it's part of the game, but I think the Yankees suck and I was looking forward to seeing Nishioka play tomorrow. So bite me if you think I shouldn't stand up for our guy.
Segue time ~
At the 11th hour, I got a ticket to the opener. Great seats, 14th row, directly behind home.
All of a sudden, I'm too sick to come into work tomorrow. (cough, cough...)

This Was a Win
4.5.11 - Game 5. Here I am pulling weeds out of the garden, listening to the Twins practically duplicate their misfortune from the night before.
2 home runs in the early innings, 4 runs scored. Both Sabathia and Duensing settle down with scoreless innings until the 8th.
I have to admit, I had pretty much given up on the game at this point. All the talk about Rafael Soriano's 35 million contract and they season he had last year with the Rays made it seem like the Twins were on their way to their 4th loss. But this is what I like about the game ~ the vaunted supermen of the sport have their bad days and just like everyone, and Soriano certainly had a bad day. Issuing 3 walks for the first time in 344 career appearances loaded the bases up for the Twins and walked a run in. Delmon came up and cleared the bases with a double. (Yay!) He is on his way to a monster season...
Great job pitching relief Matt. Excuse me, Mr Capps.
Now on to the 10th. After Denard singles to get on, Nishioka fails to get his bunts and slaps a single moving Span to 3rd. Mauer saws off his stick with a grounder past Cano and drives in the winning run. Nice.
2-3 aint bad at this point. I can work with that. Hella better that 1-4.

Fret Much?
4.4.11 - Game 4. I've been biting my tongue lately, but the Twins seem to be struggling out of the gate. It's easy to to fall into the fair weather fan's lament. (Repeat after me, it's only the first week...)
Last night's game against he Yankees had some flickers of hope as the Twin's bats seemingly started to wake up. I'm concerned about the defense. Clearly not the crisp team I would have expected. Perhaps they need some time to "gel" now that the real pressure is on. The Twins don't have the 1 or 2 killer starters on the pitching staff, but rather a decent (sanguine?) overall group. If you don't have the aces bringing their best game, you gotta have defense.
One positive from last night, was Baker. Although he got hammered around in the beginning, he settled down and pitched pretty well for the rest of his innings.
PS ~ as soon as they ship Nishioka's gold glove from Tokyo, hopefully he'll settle down.

Finally, A Win
4.3.11 - Game 3. The Twins finally win one. Getting swept right out of the box is no way to start a season, so I'm glad they won at least one.

Opening Day
4.1.11 - Game 1. Toronto's home run parade continues from last year. Pavano isn't looking very sharp, either. Caught the game at the local coffee shop. Tiny screens, but good camaraderie made up for the lack of visual satisfaction. Tough loss.
