Free Wally!!!

3.22.11 - Good news for Wally the Beerman. Found not guilty for selling beer to a minor. Looks like the legal system ruled the Minneapolis police used entrapment.

I always get a kick out of statements like:
"Undercover operatives can lie if asked whether they are working with the police and as part of a sting operation. But the decoy must tell the truth if asked whether they are old enough to buy booze." Square that one with logic.

As with just about any controversial news article the comment section contains a nice variety of armchair opionistas. Gotta love freedom.

Silky Smooth

3.18.11 - Here's a pull from my (quite expensive) 2011 series one quest.

I liked last years silk design a bit better. This is a tad too "boxy".

Here is what I found out about Adam Dunn ...

I've heard about this guy. He seems like he has a strong bat, averaging around 35 dingers in
the past 10 years.

Although I'm not quite sure what to make of his nickname...

Tarp Removal

3.14.11 - Opening day is right around the corner! Just yesterday I was just wondering the grass was going to look like considering the winter snow has stubbornly lingering around.

And lo and behold, here's a series the Twins posted on TwitPics...

Sunny day at Target Field. First sighting of outfield grass. on Twitpic

Tarp removal progress. Won't be long until #openingday! on Twitpic

Tarp removal part 3. It's gone! on Twitpic

We've been living on an ice cube this winter.

A Small Fraction of a Million

1.24.11 - I cashed out of the Million Card Giveaway redemption. Got all 119 cards redeemed, except for the 1961 Phil Rizzuto. Topps claims it's on back order. (Not sure why, but I'll get around to calling customer... sometime.) I chose to get everything dated 1986 and earlier. Roughly a dozen from the 50's, a couple dozen from the 60's, and the rest from the 70's and early 80's. Most of the cards were in good shape, but it's apparent these are not gems. A couple had bad folds/creases. One had a nasty stain on it. Obviously, these cards are buy backs.

The box o' fun...

Detail on the early ones...

My LCS has offered to take a look at some the older cards. They have some experience grading and it will be interesting to see what they think.

Mellow Yellow

Sometime in January - I pulled another printing plate. This time a Texas player from the 2010 T-206 set. Always a nice amount of detail in the yellow plate for the skin tones in an otherwise weak color in the printing process.

the "magic scoreboard"

Will it still have that "new ballpark smell"? Excited about the "pole"...
